Enjoy a private full-day tour to two of Italy’s most celebrated UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. With an English-speaking driver to lead the way, you’ll experience the stunning beauty of south-western Italy throughout this tour.
The first stop is Pompeii, a once-bustling Roman town that now stands as a vital archaeological site. You can stroll through the ancient streets, visit homes, shops, bars, and even a Roman brothel, all while being awed by how well this town has been preserved over the centuries.
The eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. turned Pompeii into a city lost to ash and soot, tragically taking the lives of over 20,000 people. Nowadays, Pompeii is like an open-air museum, one of the few places where an ancient city has been so beautifully preserved by volcanic ash. You’ll have the incredible opportunity to explore how people lived 2,000 years ago.
The journey continues in Positano, known for its narrow streets, designer boutiques, and beautiful sea. The town also has valuable relics of its rich history. Beneath the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, near Marina Grande beach, lies a Roman villa, a significant archaeological discovery in southern Italy. This aristocratic dwelling, from the first century BC to the first century AD, is part of the MAR – Roman Archaeological Museum.
Enjoy the stunning coastal views as you travel through Praiano to Amalfi, where vibrant houses merge with tree-covered cliffs. This city is strikingly beautiful, located at a ravine’s edge, nearly atop the sea. The city’s center is Piazza Duomo, home to Saint Andrew’s Cathedral, featuring a Romanesque bell tower and brightly mosaiced Byzantine towers at the top of a staircase.
Please note: Entrance fees, meals and drinks are not included. For a better experience and because of your time frame, a certified English speaking guide at Pompeii is highly recommended; two hours is the minimum number of hours required for hiring a guide. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water (especially in the summer) for this tour.
